Tokyo has 219 islands of different sizes, terrains and ecosystems in the Pacific Ocean, ranging from Oshima located within two hours by ship from downtown Tokyo, to the Ogasawara islands located within twenty-six hours by ship. They are collectively called Tokyo's islands, among which the Izu islands and the Ogasawara islands are particularly popular as resorts. The former is comprised of Oshima, Toshima, Niijima, Shikinejima, Kozushima, Miyakajima, Mikurashima, Hachijojima and Aogashima while Chichijima and Hahajima comprise the Ogasawara islands. The Tokyo Islands Tourist Information Promotion Association was established to promote these islands as resorts. Operated by the association, this site offers information on various aspects of the islands such as their tourist associations, culture and history. Why don't you visit these relaxing resort islands with mild climates, meet friendly people, and experience another Tokyo?
TOKYO-ISLANDS.COM is a website built and operated under the auspices of the Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, in cooperation with the town/village offices and tourist associations of the nine Izu islands and the Ogasawara islands. |
