Located 287 kilometers south of Tokyo in the Pacific Ocean, Hachijojima is the southernmost island among the Izu Islands. Situated on the same latitude of Sasebo in Nagasaki Prefecture and Muroto Cape in Kochi Prefecture, the climate of the island with subtropical plants is milder than that of Kagoshima in Kyusu. With the average annual temperature is 18 degrees C, Hachijojima is often referred to as an island of everlasting spring. It takes only 45 minutes by air to Hachijojima from Haneda Airport.

>Mt. Hachijo-fuji
The 854-meter high M. Hachijou-fuji is the highest mountain in the Izu Islands. It is a composite volcano that became inactive after the last eruption in 1707. With a caldera 400 meters across and 50 meters deep, the elegant profile of the mountain with its wide-flowing skirts represents the natural beauty of this island.

>Nambra Senjojiki
Nambra Senjojiki is a 500-meter long and 100-meter wide?rocky expanse on the northwestern coastline of the island. This unique landscape was made of ancient lava flows from Mt. Hachijo-fuji. People in the olden days believed that 1,000 tatami mats would be necessary to cover this huge terrace of lava, and named it "Senjojiki."
>Uramigataki Hot Spring
Nothing feels better than unwinding in a good hot spring bath. A volcanic island, Hachijojima has a number of hot springs. This is a free public hot spring bath overlooking a superb view. (Since it is designed for mixed bathing, users must wear bathing suits. The hot spring water contains chloride salt.)
