Island’s souvenir, passion fruit
2018.6.29|Kozushima
Passion fruit, native to the Americas, was brought into Japan around the beginning of the 20th century. It is only recently that people started growing this fruit on Oshima and the Ogasawara Islands. It is in season for about one month from mid-July to mid-August, so the production is increasing this time of year. This highly nutritious tropical fruit is available at various places around the island, including farm stands and the tourism association counter. It is enjoyed as a dessert and processed into jam and other items.
