Event information held in each island
Hachijojima Freesia Festival
During spring, the air in Hachijojima is filled with the fragrance of freesias. The island is full of them and celebrates their blooming with its regularly held Freesia Festival. At the foot of Mt. Hachijo-Fuji, 350,000 freesias create a wonderful tapestry that will warm your heart. If you want to take some with you, there is a specially designated area where you can pick some freely. On April 7 and 8, “Freesia Infiorata” is also on display. This is like a gigantic carpet made of freesias that visitors can enjoy while at the same time trying some local specialties at the “Shima Meshi Fiesta” that brings all of the island’s popular restaurants and cafés together in one venue.
During the festival, at its main Hachigatayama site, there will also be a “Freesia Café” offering sweets with milk and lemons from Hachijojima – if you visit, don’t miss it!
